Cromwell Road SW7
On a recent visit to London I came out of the Natural History Museum on Cromwell Road with my little 'point and shoot' camera in my hand. I took three photos in quick succession of traffic further along the roadway. This letterbox-shaped painting was created from parts of all three photos. I was drawn to the bright reds of the buses, which contrasted with the greens of the trees along that stretch of the road. The biggest challenge I had to overcome was the righthand third of the painting. I'd taken the photos from a distance of 200-300 yards and in each case the section on the right was slightly blurry. I decided to make a virtue out of necessity and painted that section with a looser treatment and less detail.
