Mont St Victoire
Yes, this is indeed Cezanne's Mont St Victoire in Provence. Mixed media = charcoal + pastel. Sketched in charcoal and partly painted on the spot, finished at home. I must say, I didn't see it as Cezanne did, or why he should devote so much effort to it. I'm afraid I don't regard his oeuvre too highly. And another thing - although we drove around the mount, we never saw an aqueduct! I really enjoyed the painting and tried to emphasise the massiveness of this great protrusion, and its whiteness. The clouds and sky were sketched quickly to capture the instantaneous (almost) cloud pattern. In fact, I used white paper and just sketched in the areas of blue I saw. This is the negative space technique, I believe.
