Soon as I saw this I thought of Edgar Allen Poe's poem 'The Raven' the background sets the raven of really well, nice work.

Very good the Raven looks great Julie and the abbey in the background is a perfect setting, the ye makes him as it does in all portraits, love the feathers, colours and the beak is particularly good as well

wow the detail of this is amazing Julie :-) the feather technique is fabulous :-)

This is really good Julie, I know raven's are consider by some to be quite menacing but yours looks friendly and inquisitive. The beautiful colour tones of the feathers are complimented perfectly by the dramatic background.

I decided to paint a raven having read up a little about them and discovered that they are very intelligent birds. However many of the members of my art group thought it looked evil and menacing. I think he looks quite friendly. The background is a vague suggestion of Tintern Abbey in Monmouthshire. Water soluble oil on oil paper - 24 x 32 cm.
