this painting looks very beautiful :-) i think it is excellent especially using oil paint :-)

Lovely light Julie and how do you come up with so many complimentary greens??!!

Yes, I agree with the other comments, works very well.

This is a lovely painting Julie, it has an autumnal feel to it with the browns and oranges and as Fiona has said all those lovely greens!

Beautiful painting Julie

Beautifully done, Julie. There's so much life and movement in the painting, it's super!

Thank you everyone for your kind comments. Fiona - I have three of ready-made greens in the Artisan range - a sap green and a viridian colour and a really useful Olive green. I often use these as bases to mix other greens by adding different colours to them, as well as the usual mixtures of various blues and yellows. I am gradually beginning to predict reasonably well the colours I will achieve - but I still have a lot to learn about colour theory!!

im back now for a bit i think :-p thank you for wondering where i was :-) i read an article recently about olive green being the most useful green to have for an artist, i must look into it :-)

Great landscape Julie, really well done

I decided I would have another attempt at a landscape and worked this up from a photograph I took in 2005 at Highnam Court, Glos. I used to live very close to the court and would walk my dog in the grounds often crossing this little bridge. It is painted in Artisan oils on Fabriano Tela paper measuring 40 by 30 cm. This time I attempted something a little different andstarted with a complementary underpainting in bright scarlet acrylic paint, having read about this technique in an earlier edition of 'The Artist'. I am very pleased with the resulting glow it gives to the painting,.
