Oils and acrylics of a woodland scene

A lovely serene scene!

Very beautiful, I like the intensity of those yellows

Very effective Jon. I like the chunky foreground especially.

Nicely painted Jon.

Boring me, asks the technical questions - when you say "oil and acrylic", I'm presuming, possibly incorrectly, that you're painting your scene in acrylics first, and then glazing oil colour over that? Not that you're painting sections in acrylic, and then other sections in oil. So long as you're painting on a rigid surface, I have no real qualms about that - I'd be a lot more cautious about it on a stretched canvas. But you're certainly achieving a very pleasing depth in this painting - you could do it all in oil, of course; the snag is that this would take quite a while to dry, depending on the pigments used (it doesn't need to take THAT long to dry, mind you). Time will tell how sound a technique it is to paint oil over acrylic - the reverse would of course be rapidly disastrous.

Thank you everyone, in response to the technical query. Yes I laid down a thin base of colour in acrylics then finished off in oils. I have done that in many paintings. The portrait of the young woman on here was done that way too. I have never had any issues and I paint on stiff acrylic paper generally. I can’t say I have had any issues on canvas but that is not my preferred material. It is too bouncy for me and they would take up far too much space .

A beautiful painting. Love the way you’ve used warm colours.
