What a lovely painting. Smashing autumnal colours. really love the wet muddy affect in the foreground. (where is the water going to go John straight into those executives homes I think not, probably shift it elsewhere - what happened to the credit crunch still building are they?)

Another lovely painting with beautiful colours, very well done.

Hi Val, Jeanette, Thanks for your nice comments on my work. I am trying to look at oythers' work but I can't seem to find a link from here... The building work has fallen silent,. They just ripped out all the trees on a few more acres and then took all the heavy plant away. Just more wildlife out of a home! There are scores of springs around this area and the main ones feed the lakes.. Even in 1976, the lake fell only a couple of inches! In fact they had to leave sluices open. So that's the scale of the problem. .

Hi John, If you know the name of the artist go to the bottom of the sidebar - says look for artist by name click on that and then type artist name in box - hope it is clear?

Hi Jeanette, Thanks for that, but there must be something wrong with my browser. I don't see any links in a sidebar but the navigation panel for the site, It doesn't mention artists! Thanks anyway. Maybe when I can dump AOL it will be better. Regards John

John , the way I find artists is as follows, after clicking on gallery go to the bottom of the page on the left hand side and click on "browse all user galleries" up comes all the artists in alphabetical order (but by first names not surnames for some reason). At the top of that page is " search by users name" type it in and off you go. Hope this helps, regards Val.

Lovely painting with lovely choice of colours. Well done.

Well that`s answerd my question, do you paaint in oil`s, Yes and very well! HARRY [Greg].

I like this one very much...

I love this, autumn is my favourite season so this is just sublime...and as for the developers and execs...hopefully they are up to there eyes in spring water....to destroy this scene is just criminal...so glad you were able to capture it for us all to enjoy...i am just learning about dark and light and you have certainly provided much for me to think about...thanks

Hi Annette, Thanks for the nice comments on my work. it really is appreciated. I have had a visit to your own gallery, and I am impressed with your range of subjects and the way you handle texture. Especially the picture of 'The Beuckle', in Glencoe. Memories of when I had young bones! Thanks again, and I look forward to visiting your gallery again. Regards John

Had trouble picking out a favourite from your gallery, but on consideration i think it is this one. I love the colours and atmosphere you have created. It is sad to know that the developers have got to work here. Still you have other options- I love the Forest of Dean which is probably only and hour or so down the m5 from Great Barr. - If you havent been they have a super sculpture trail you can follow and the "Hundred House" pub for lunch. The trees really are spectacular at this time of year. No doubt there are places much nearer but I think it worth the drive on a nice day.

Wonderful colours and a lovely composition with the road leading the eye into the painting. A really super image John.

Thanks for your supportive comments John. I just love your landscapes and this is breathtaking - the colours are fabulous. I have been bought some oil paints but not brave enough to try them, but have booked an artist to come and demonstrate (Adrian Clamp) to my art society : www.ironbridgesocietyofartists.co.uk I look forward to viewing more of your work. Best wishes. Steve

With regard to the redevelopment of this area, the developers promised the earth to get support for their project. They 'stole' my painting to illustrate their brochure, to use it as 'an artist's impression of the planned 'nature walk'. I started proceedings, but it was hopeless. To exact 'justice' would have cost a comparative fortune! So I might frame-up the painting and hang it in my study! Thanks once more to everyone who has commented on my work. I love yer all!

This hot Autumn scene was made in a park, quite near my home in Great Barr. The land was owned by 'The Crown' and when they sold it, it went to property devlopers. Complete with three large lakes. It would have made a beautiful park for residents to enjoy. Sadly this lovely walk is now under an 'Executive' housing project. I hope the developers recognise and solve the problem of 'rising water' in the area!

About the Artist

I have painted most of my life. Childhood Christmases usually found a box of watercolours in my 'stocking'. I left school in 1954 and within 6 months I had enlisted in the Royal Navy, starting at the infamous HMS Ganges, near Shotley, Suffolk. Artists country yes, but no time for such things while…
