I really like this, can't help you with the fixative as I have never used oil pastels, sorry maybe somebody else will know.

You'll be the Jilly of the Forum, then...... as I said back there, I'd frame them under a mount, under glass; but I've never used a fixative either, nor a varnish; maybe someone who has can help. They can of course be made to flow with mineral spirits/Turps: that should stabilize them in itself.

Don't use either a fixative or varnish , I tried varnish once and it just smeared the colour...ooooops Roberts suggestion mounted and glazed is best.m lovely kit .

I went with Roberts advice in the end and just framed it under glass. I use oil pastels quite a lot now for sketching but I won't risk a fixative or varnish.( thanks for the warning), they seem to survive just being left in the sketch pad.

Oil pastel 7''x 5'' Did this small pastel of a friends cat for her birthday. I'm getting to like oil pastels (snnelier), they are quite sticky but I prefer that to dusty. Need some advice as to whether to use a fixative or not.
