STUDY for a larger painting

This painting was done at or art club over a number of mornings and i'm thinking of doing a larger version in pastels. "WHAT DO YOU THINK" ??? as I'm not sure if it would be worth all the effort.

It's a very fine painting Jimmy, beautifully done, in fact; but only you can answer the question

That’s a study? Could you honestly improve on it? If it was me, I’d be well pleased with it is as it is.

Yes Tony, pleased don't get me wrong, I am pleased with it, but it is just a small painting and what I'm saying is, is it worth doing a full imperial size paint of it. It took me some time to do this one and I'm sure it will take a long time to the larger version, especially in pastels.

Well I think this is superb Jim, and as Tony has suggested , it’s very complete looking and a complex scene. I would be very happy with this, but at the end of the day only you can decide whether you have the time and inclination to produce a larger version. Maybe you normally work much larger in which case you probably will, but you seem to be doubting the idea? Whatever you decide, this stands alone as a lovely pastel painting.

Stunning James. whilst only you can decide I also think this could be a stunner on a grand scale!

Love the painting. As for whether you make a larger version...that's up to you. I wouldn't. This is a successful painting, a larger version may not match it...who knows? It's potentially a lot of work that may or may not be worth it. Maybe you should accept that you've already made an excellent job of this subject, and paint something else.

Thank you all for your comments, I think I will take Lewis advice and leave well alone. Maybe if I had been 20 years younger I would give it a go, but with the usual problems of old age I think I would reach a point where, having spent a lot of time on some of it, I would loose interest and it would never be finished. So thank's again to you all, I'll have to tell the wife it's not goint to be painted.

That is lovely as it is - I love the colours you have used on the boats, so vibrant.
