I would like to share a very handy tip with you and I'm sure that those graphite lovers out there will find it most useful. When your graphite drawing requires a black background or large areas of dark value, this can be a challenge to create and plenty of hard work. Well, I came out with this solution. Tools: 8B Graphite blocks - as you call them - I call them sticks. You say tomatoe and I say tomato= same thing lol A blade with handle. A plastic cup or container. A piece of white felt cut into 2"x2" squares. Scraping the graphite stick with the blade over an 8"x10" cardboard or shoe box lid, make enough powder to cover the area you're about to work. Pour powder into plastic container. Fold felt square once or twice in accord with the size of the shape or space you are covering. Dip felt into the graphite powder and collect enough material to start rubbing * slow and gradually in rotating motion. Cover entire area and repeat treatment until the desire darkness is achieved. This method, you can also applied to light or medium backgrounds, just be careful of the amount of powder you use. See picture of board with the black powder rubbed onto it. You can make a straight line, a faded effect and many other shapes once you get the hang of it. DO NOT USE THIS POWDER NEAR FINE FURNITURE OR FABRICS.
