Whenever I look at pictures, I always think would I like to see this on my wall? This one, yes I would, a cheerful 'tonic' for a dull day. Love the background, the harlequin jumps out of the dark to greet you. May I ask where you reside and where you teach?

Hello Brenda, I live in Delray Beach, Florida and I teach at my studio there. This is such a happy piece, I do enjoy it. Best wishes, Jay DePalma

Acrylic on 30"x40" canvas depicting a Harlequin dancing with a heart on a string. I'm 49 years of age , I was born October the 11th of 1961 and I began drawing and painting when I was 5 years young. Based on that fact alone, I can tell you that I've covered some terrain in this business. More often than not, I feel, that I was fortunate to have this "creepy" ability to draw with absolute faithfulness any subject before me since a very early age. I also understand that not everyone is capable of doing this from the word go. Overtime, as expected, I grew more confident and more accomplished in my craft, and taught myself how to work in watercolor, pastel, oil, colored pencil, acrylic, ink, gouache, tempera and of course, graphite. Not all at the same pace, mind you, but gradually. Oil, however, turned out to be the least of my favorites. I'm not fond of the smell and the long drying process drives me absolutely MAD! Regardless, I been commissioned many, many times to create pieces in oil and they all came out quite fabulous, if I may say so - but then again, I was getting paid for it so the smell was not so unbearable after all. Perhaps due to the fact that I had no instructions from anyone with preconceived ideas and set rules, my approach and understanding of the materials I selected to work with was very unorthodox and definitely "outside the box" Because of this, I can say that I'm more open minded with my students and their needs. For example, if one of my very gifted guys want a short cut or an easy way out, I will not give him that option and he will have to raise the bar on his own merits. Then on the other hand, if another student with less artistic abilities, who loves to paint, re
