This is quite appealing Janet with it's subdued palette and coarse brushwork.

I like the way you've 'worked' the paint, Janet. It puts me in mind of Edith Piaf.

Agree with Frank about the palette and brush stokes, a slight feel to it of Walter Sickerts brush marks, nice work, and shows a versatility to your work.

Thank you Satu, Julie and Cesare. Cesare, I enjoy painting with a palette knife, but it's not easy to get the accurate marks you want, but it makes you do it loosely! This one was all done with the knife, but quite often I do the things like the eyes with a brush!

Portrait of a woman based on a 1940's photo taken by one of my parents during the war. I sort of updated the hairstyle though. She has a bit of a wonky eye, what my mother would have called a 'glad eye'. Not sure what was glad about it but it was a phrase she used! It is oil on canvas, painted with a palette knife.
