I had missed this. The race comes right through Reeth Bay, above which I live so I get a grandstand view. I'd rather watch it than participate in it.... and one day, I too must paint it.

Thanks Robert. With the start of the race being generally quite early in the moring it offers great possibilities with the early morning light. I raced the event this year for the first time in years but the light wasn't great so I didn't miss out on any opportunities for painting! It is always difficult to know what to focus on with so many boats competing so i think something that captures something of the atmosphere works best for me.

This is the painting that I saw in the right hand side of the gallery and invited me to open your portolio. I am so glad I did otherwise I would have missed your inspiring and beautiful paintings

"Just after 5:00 am on a June morning in 2007 over 1700 boats begin their circumnavigation of the Isle of Wight for the world's largest single yacht race. It had been stormy earlier but as the rain clouds receeded, the sun broke through and the sky became a pallette of contrasts. Parts of clouds lit warm and firery, other areas more forboding purples and blues and all set against the metallic grey-blue of a cold early morning sea. "
