Visited there an Sunday school outings. Smashing piece and the figures make it. I try to place figures in most works, but remember one of the golden rules, never an even number!

Abbott Huby's Tower, I think, from a memory of around 30 years ago. I was walking around the abbey with colleagues from several Housing Associations - we had a day off from a conference in Harrogate - and one of them said 'I don't think we could build this now....': no indeed - not that your average Housing Association would have a need to, but the construction of the building, much of which is, as you say, still clearly visible and in good condition for a ruin, is a masterpiece.

I like the way you have caught the age in the tower. But overall its a terrific painting.

Oil on Board 12" x 6": Painted from sketches and photos in the studio from an afternoon stroll at Fountains Abbey. Probably one of the best preserved ruined (oxymoron?) monastaries in Northern England. Some beautiful light finally emerged from behind the clouds illumiating the western side of the church tower enthused me to scribble down a quick sketch, and snapshot on a phone camera - so pretty useless as a photo but great as an aide memoire. The two people which add a little life to the scene and aid the composition were chucked in from some other sketches from elsewhere in the abbey.
