Lesser African Flamingos by Chris Hill

The African Lesser Flamingo

Wow, those pink flamingoes take us somewhere entirely different, what a great commission

I would say a very successful challenge!

Beautifully painted- love the flamingos Chris.

You make an interesting point about different light in different places - that's probably why I so often find something jarring about some paintings of exotic animals taken from zoo specimens, but placed in someone's idea of jungle who has never actually visited one: indeed - did that myself many years ago: yours are far more convincing, and you've caught the beauty of those birds.

Beautiful work, as ever!

Pink flamingoes against the grey background - gorgeous.

Part of an African series commission I am working on for an ornithologist who has spent most of his life in The Horn of Africa and now lives in Sussex, England. There is a completely different light in Africa and requires a different palette. A real challenge - especially as I have never been to Africa ! Watercolour, ink, charcoal, chalk pastel and wax crayon
