well done, you had the right idea by having a try, and look how you have surprised yourself, keep it up.

Well said, that man.... yes, you can take yourself by surprise by trying something you thought you just couldn't do. Is the poor old chap wearing just half a pair of specs? Trouble is, that's probably daily reality for an awful lot of old people in poor countries. A sensitive drawing - just with HB? Well, if you were to add extra tones with a few softer pencils (try Mars Lumograph or Derwent Graphic) there's no knowing what you could achieve.

It's a very good likeness. Needs maybe a bit more strength of tone in the darker areas so that the light on his turban stands out more.

Thank you Tommy, yes I did surprise myself and I should bear it in my mind for future pics that I think are going to be too hard. Yes Robert, I think its like a monacle? and just an HB pencil, thats all she gave me so I just continued with just that. I would normally use different grades of pencil. Thank you Diana, I see what you mean about the darks, I will work on it more to make the lights stand out more. It was a good exercise in believing in myself and what I could try to draw.

A lovely result, and well done for having a go!

Just comparing this which was well done, with your latest which is magnificent- just shows how much you've come on and gained confidence.

Thank you very much Diana!

Last week my Art tutor asked if I wanted to draw this Indian man and I immediately said no as I didn't think I could do it as it looked so hard. Then I thought, wait a minute, try it anyway instead of being defeatist! I think its turned out ok. Done freehand with an HB pencil.
