Snake oil anyone? by Gerhard Ritter

Snake oil anyone?

Great character, lovely palette

is this by any chance a reversed image, because his buttons are on the left of his waistcoat and overcoat.... not that it makes a lot of difference, he's a very recognizable character. And snake-oil is far from being restricted to the 1880s, given the number of people who swill homeopathic remedies down their credulous gullets.....

Confession time for me Robert - when I capture an image on my computer one of the first things I do in manipulation is to see whether the image works better in mirror image or not. In this case my captivation with the charm of the character exceeded my general caution. When it comes to painting the picture I generally check for things such as watches, belt buckles, breast pockets and the like but then sometimes I forget. Good pick up.

25cm x 34cm on unknown paper approx 250gsm medium rough. A little fun, this one - I just finished it - and wanted to share. It reminded me of the old west - or rather what is usually portrayed as being typical of the American mid west around the 1870's.
