Nile temple

Nile temple
Comments

Hi Jane - This is a very nice field sketch I would carry on and do some more before giving up

Thanks, Crispian. I won't give up, just perhaps use watercolour on its own rather than with pen. Or experiment with pen and a much looser wash.

I really like this, Jane. I think the pen and wash captured just the right amount of detail without fuss. I'd hazard a guess and say this is Kom Ombo, because, to the best of my recollection, the Edfu columns are not aligned in rows behind one another.

Thanks for your comment, Seok Yam, and clearly your memory is better than mine. I could trawl through the photographs to check, and I should have made a note at the time. Will remember that in future!

I really like this painting, Jane, and suggest that you produce yet more pen and wash pictures. They are quite charming. Thanks also for your very constructive comments on my After Fiona river picture. As I have said to Fiona, it has really helped me to move on to another painting. I was beginning to despair!! Thanks again.

Thanks, Lionel. So now I'm watching out for your next painting - no pressure!

Your experiment had a very good result. You drew the Nile temple from a very interesting perspective(angle). The visitors give us elements about the huge size of the temple.I like the light coming from the far end of the temple(excellent contast at this point)

Not sure whether this is Kom Ombo or Edfu temple; we visited later in the day and the crowds were dispersing. Pen and wash - a bit of an experiment; think I'll stick to just plain watercolours in future.
