This is a beautiful, atmospheric painting, Jane. I like it very much, especially your limited use of colours!

Interesting painting - have you used quite a lot of medium here, eg turps rather than an oilier mix? It has a soft, brooding air; like it - and it's unusual.

Thank you Mia and Robert for taking the time to comment. Robert, yes, I used a very thin paint for the darker tones but thicker paint for the brighter areas. I did a wonderful short course on oil painting with Martin Kinnear last winter and he pressed this point home - the brightest area of the painting to be thick paint and vice versa. That was just one of the interesting things I learnt and although I'm very very far from emulating his techinique, I am trying to improve... I might try this same view again but use different colours, although tonal values are the key - I think.

Nice athmospheric painting Jane and thanks for the advice!

Thanks for your comment, Petra. But I can't think that I could have given you advice - compliments, more likely!

A lovely light effect through the trees.

I love the gentle colours here - very restful. Thanks too Jane for your helpful comment on my "Ruin". I see what you mean.

Another lovely painting that I missed. I think you've captured a lot of atmosphere here. I am really enjoying trawling through this gallery!

An attempt to capture the light shining though a patch of deciduous woodland, mid summer.
