I think this is beautiful Carole and I lke both paintings

It's a lovely painting, I prefer this second version, background gives it more life/depth.

I agree with Petra and Pat. Very elegant.

Thank you Petra, Pat and Midori for your valuable comments.

I do usually like plain backgrounds but I do like this version very much Carole

Love this one Carole, the background sets it off perfectly.

Thanks Glennis, Larry and Fiona for your very encouraging comments.

Carole, superb,enough said.

Hi Carole, I think this one is the better of the two, as the background contrast makes the Camelia's stand out beautifully.

Looks very good to me. Lovely juicy leaves and the background sets it off well. Lovely.

I'm just so jealous of that background. How come yours turn out so well and I have to resort to gouache? LOL Don't tell me, I know, I'm rubbish at them and you aren't, damn it :):):)

Maybe I am the only one: this is beautiful... but I prefer the first one! In my (humble) opinion, although the background is very well painted, it takes away the attention from the pure and subtle shape of the perfect flowers. :) Mia.

Thanks Jim, Joy, Val and Mia. Mia, I think this is why I wanted other people to advise me as I wasn't sure about the background, I agree with you it did take the edge off the flowers. Val, you make me laugh! Funny as I think my backgrounds are rubbish!! :o))

Thanks Avril, the background will have to stay now ; o )

Lovely painting, beautifully observed. Can feel the shine on the leaves.

Mant thanks Jeanette much appreciated.

I think the background adds a lot of depth to it, Carole. It's so classically lovely. The washes are simply superb.

Thanks for the vote of confidence in my background, you made me feel much better about it ;o)

Stunning effect by adding that background and giving it a fuzzy effect based on the same colours you have given the painting a 3D effect Carole, brilliant success, hence all the comments!

This is an updated or 'mucked up' version of the previous loose botanical painting. Thought it looked boring in the end so added a background, still not too sure. I laid the mount loosely on top to see what you thought.
