This is just beautiful - painting flowers makes you look at them so much closer and see so much more doesn't it. I love the depth and range of colours you have achieved.

I've just been telling Val of my admiration of artists that use coloured watercolour pencils to create paintings like this. Just beautiful Carole.

Superb, absolutely superb, just love the detail, textures and depth. I tend to use watercolour only, but will have to try a mixture, as your results are so effective. Do you pencil dry on dry or wet pencil on dry? Love to know. Your other work is also stunning, can't wait to see more.

Thanks so much Christine, Fiona and Peter. Peter I use dry watercolour pencil on dry watercolour, it is easy to remove by damp brush when you get it wrong! I learned this on my last course. Also they are not so waxy and don't leave a bloom.

Really beautiful Carole, the shading on the petals is so well done and I love the dark purple definition at the base of the petals.

Those purples, ranging from lilac to deepest black purple are wonderful - so rich and with so much depth. A wonderful painting, Carole.

Just beautiful Carole!

this is lovely and those are good tips for using the pencils.

Just thought I'd take a peek at the gallery before going to bed and I see this. The depth of colour you've got by using the pencils on top of watercolour is amazing, I must give that a try, though I'm not sure it would work quite the same with my Caran d'Ache Luminance pencils as they are wax based. I have a feeling I might have to treat myself to some watercolour ones:) Superb work Carole.

Can't add to what's been said - love it

Thanks for your lovely comments they are a great boost for me! I found a mounted frame with just about 6x6 apperture in distressed silver, thought this flower would look good in it. Thans again all.

Fantastic watercolour Carole

Super work Carole, sorry for the late comment, playing catch-up as per!

Hope your neck is better now LOL. A beautiful vibrant and powerful painting.

Wow - this is stunning Carole, absolutely beautiful

Thank you Debs, Diana, Denise and glennis.

A truly stunning piece, Carole! Love the rich, jewel tones.

Thank you for commenting on my painting! You've got some extensive and beautiful gallery! I am amazed!

Watercolour first then watercolour pencil dry. A photo taken in my daughter's garden. So many shades in the 'black' which was really dark shades of purple, blue and pinks.
