This is excellent. I love the enlarged reflection in the spectacles and the smaller label reflection in the glass. Fantastic observation. What medium? The table looks like watercolur but can't see how you got the bottle so dark in watercolour.

Hello, Diana, it is good of you to take the time to make a (constructive) comment. You are right about the medium, it is a watercolour. For the bottle, I used local (red-based) Payne's Grey, with a minimum amount of water, and a No 10 round brush. You will of course know, that if you load less water in your brush, you will produce a darker colour, and vice versa. For my watercolour painting, I use exclusively SAA materials, brushes as well as paint. I can tell you their equipment is first class. I have a set of three Kolinsky sable brushes, which I rarely use these days, much preferring the SAA synthetic variety. Thank you once again for taking the time to comment. Much appreciated. www.erikclewespaintings.com

Hi Erik, i find alot of watercolour paintings uninspiring however every now and then i see one that stands out from the crowd and this is certainly one of them.....it's great !! ...the main elements are so very well drawn and painted .....i especially love the glass. I too love shopping from the SAA shop, i find them unbeatable value on almost everything and on top of that the SAA reward points soon mount up and are a great little bonus.

It is refreshing on these pages to receive a well constructed comment, thank you, Steve, and of course, I am pleased you enjoyed viewing my painting. On the SAA front, perhaps between us we should start a (forum) thread on the advantages of membership of the SAA! Thanks once again, Steve, for taking the time and trouble to view my gallery, and to make such a pleasing comment. I don't know about you, but my reason for uploading paintings to this gallery, is for no other than someone may derive pleasure out of viewing them. You have vindicated that reason.

The accuracy and sharpness is amazing! I only use watercolours but have never achieved such results. Not a great fan of still life but I admire your ability. Can't wait to see your next one...Regards Steve

Chips in I'm not a fan of watercolour, but I do like bold crisp shapes with good strong colour and evidence of that eye for detail, this style of illustrative precision art, regardless of medium is my favorite. the glass is a knockout.

To Steven and Phil, your comments on my still life are most welcome, especially so as they are constructive, yours, Phil, in particular. We all, as artists, share the same goal, i.e. to produce work which we hope someone will enjoy. If we achieve that much, we haven't done too badly. Thank you, the both of you for taking the trouble to make a comment.

Missed this one. Great in it's simplicity. Perfectly painted. Super still life.

I agree with the above comments....this is just stunning!
