To answer your question Frank l don't know precisely. The local farmer told me it's called 'vinagrelles' in Catalan, the local language. It's quite common in the vineyards there and it is its red colour which inspired me.

I was attracted to the wine red colour of the earth of this vineyard in the Baix Emporda in Catalonia. In fact it is a weed the farmers don't like. While I was painting he started cutting it, but he kindly postponed the operation when l asked him to leave it a bit longer for me to finish the painting !
