Amazing artwork!

Beautiful portrait of our amazing wildcats.

Fabulous, astonishing

I remember a naturalist who went looking for the Scottish wildcat - and unfortunately found one; it came at him out of a bush or burrow, and he described it as "as if I was hit in the face with barbed wire"; this was the same naturalist who lost an eye to a tawny owl, so perhaps he had a habit of getting too close. They are feisty critters, though. There's a difference - and I'm no authority - between a genuine Scottish wild cat, and cats in Scotland that have gone feral; the genuine wildcat became an endangered species when gamekeepers trapped and killed them; I hope that has been stopped now. Is your wildcat the real thing, or a maverick moggy, I wonder? Whatever it is, it's a very fine pastel, as are your others.

Beautifully caught

Beautifully done, the eye is so full of life.

Your painting captures the stillness and intense gaze of the cat beautifully

Three wonderful postings today Elidh but this is my favourite. It’s the intense gaze of longing and something indiscernible that is so mesmerising in this fascinating animal.

First class work as always.

Scottish Wildcat portrait in soft pastel. 9.45" x 7.09" I actually took the reference photo for this piece, but it is completely out of focus and overexposed! I definitely don't have a career as a wildlife photographer ahead of me, but there was something in this wildcat's gaze that I was eager to capture. Thankfully I have done enough cat profiles that I was able to add the details that my blurry photographs didn't fully capture!
