This is one of a series of watercolor paintings done in a similar way. I use waste mount card for the surface, gesso to create texture and watercolor paint for the image. It can be difficult but I'm pleased with the effect. I think there is a touch of atmospheric fantasy about this picture that I'm pleased with.
