A super watercolour with good strong washes

Superb piece, beautifully composed, with a palette that sings.

Fantastic still life Dermot! The light is incredible and such a beautiful handling of watercolours.

Wonderful use of the medium Dermot and the most beautiful light.

A great arrangement and a super painting all round. Love the apples and the variety of colours and tones you have used. (P.S. I used to use photos from PMP a lot. However, I posted a less an impressed review on Amazon about a book written by the chap who runs the site, although I didn't realise he was anything to do with PMP at the time. He took exception and removed my subscription to the site! Rather bizarre and inappropriate reaction I thought - freedom of speech is obviously NOT alive and well in his world).

Thank you for your comment on my sketch, Dermot - much appreciated and very kind of you. The review I did was about a book about 'loose' watercolour painting. I borrowed this book from a friend and after reading it, I was fed up that this chap (the one who started PMP) tried to suggest that painting loosely meant painting quickly and even carelessly, i.e. just sloshing the paint on. I am a fan of the great Charles Reid, the American watercolourist, and have bee on a wonderful course with him and sat at his elbow and watched him paint. He is the master of loose watercolour painting and nothing he does is careless, quick or not carefully thought out even although his paintings artfully look casually put together. I paint in a loose type style and I am the same when I paint, I deliberate about how far to go, what to leave out, etc. My review was fair I felt and just pointed out that it was perhaps a bit misleading to instruct how to paint loosely in the way he had. I had a couple of vitriolic contacts from him, telling me that I hadn't actually bought his book off Amazon and had no right to comment. He then realised I was a member of PMP and deleted my subscription. I feel sorry for the man really, as that is a very daft reaction and if you write a book, not everyone is going to like it and the review processes on all sites now allow people to express an opinion. If you don't want anything other than glowing reviews then don't sell on Amazon! I told him that and he didn't like that either. All good fun, eh!

Love the light you've captured! Beautifully painted.

Thanks a lot Lorraine

Beautiful, confident use of watercolour
