Failed and Unfinished

Failed and Unfinished

Which bit of this painting failed??? Just add the head mask in red and it will be a finished and balanced painting with loads of atmosphere and movement. I like the suggested faces, the spatters and the colour palette. I thought I was hard on myself but I think you are being even harder than I could ever be. Enjoy the painting and be pleased with it!

It's neither failed or unfinished. I honestly like it just the way it is. I like the fact that some of the riders are more vague and not detailed. The foreground brush strokes and splatters are excellent. Ok, perhaps colour the front runner's hat (or whatever it's called in horse racing language) and leave the rest as they are. Too much detail isn't always a good thing in my opinion!

An objective look is what you get on here and, as Thea and Louise have said, it works! Wait a little and add a final touch, it's too good to write off.

Thanks Thea, Louise and Marjorie. All of it is failed if you could see the original. It's bigger than most of my successful similar paintings but I know I was trying a different technique to all of them and just was not happy about it when I got this far. I have painted a practice piece on the back of it.

Well, we all see things differently Derek!

One that got away. I think I was rushing it, it's now got a doodle watercolour on the back.

Eleventyeight as my hashing pals called my new age recently, it's supposed to sound better. Trying to paint every day in acrylics using only expired credit/debit cards, and partially succeeding as they're only for me and not show these days.
