I think it's better cropped tell me your view

They're both Amazing paintings Dennis, I do like the single cow on the other painting as well.. :)

Love them both Dennis Beautiful

Good one Dennis. However, in this case I don 't think the cropped version is an improvement. On the full size version the PPP ( perfect pole placement ) is beautifully and subtlety balanced by the position of the single cow on the right hand side. Cropping the curving skyline has made it a rather dark hard edge which distracts from the focal point. The feeling of space and balance in the uncropped version is wonderful. Hope this was helpful? Always good to experiment with cropping but sometimes your initial thoughts prove to be the right ones!

Many thanks I'm convinced . Elizabeth your comments were really helpful thank you very much

Some beautiful colour blends Dennis.

Dennis, I like both, but think I actually prefer the cropped version, it seems to create a stronger image.

I think the crop is better I agree with Jenny.

Ah Michael you said what I wanted to say but couldn't thankyou

It's fascinates me how we can alter emphasis in a painting by moving things around or cropping. You have to be very analytical when you do this though. Turn the picture side down so that it becomes a collection of abstract marks and colours. Look hard. Is the focal point still the initial one you intended? In the crop, I now go backwards and forwards between the pole and the white cow as they have an equal visual dynamic. If the gate is now the focal point, it needs to be stronger. In the uncropped version the focal point was clearly the white cow sitting more centrally to the composition and balanced by the surrounding composition.

I think it is good, caught my eye straight away.

You know your stuff Elizabeth I still prefer the cropped version and I go on instinct that's the way I paint mostly on instinct .

What it needs to make it more striking is the slither of sky needs darkening slightly and the white cow lighting slightly , I'll do it when I get home tonight .

Cropped has more immediacy and interest, not that the other one is bad at all!

Love both pictures Dennis....full of texture and love the way the cows are placed all gathered together as though they are all feeding from the same patch of grass.

Beautifully layered, with excellent depth. Another stunner, Dennis!
