Disused Granite Quarry
This was painted on Cape Ann, Massachusetts some years ago. I rarely paint in portrait format but the composition called for it. I was attracted by thetall concrete built structure sitting above the quarry. I thought that it would have looked more at home on the coast in Normandy as part of Rommel’s Atlantic Wall. I as told later that it was built during WW 2 specifically to be a lookout station for enemy submarines which used to lurk in this part of the North Atlantic to prey upon convoys assembling to sail to the U K.
