That's a really great idea David - never thought of it before. A lovely quartet of sketches.

Thank you all for your compliments. I sometimes use pencil for the lighter shades but I really enjoy playing with the range of tones available from Unipin drawing pens with 0.1, 0.3, 0.5 & 0.8mm tips. And a set of those is usually cheaper than a tube of watercolour!

The screen on the back of a digital camera is a useful tool for sketching. Whilst on holiday it's not always possible to stop and sketch, so I take photos of attractive subjects. I then sketch these from the camera screen later. In this case I did four different ones using three widths of fibre pen nibs, which captured the feel of the castle more completely for me. I know the image to work from is small, but you can zoom in to enlarge hard to see parts of the image. I pencil the photo numbers in the lower left corner of each sketch so I can find it again on the camera if necessary.
