Can't help but think van Gogh could have painted something like this and called it "Orchard, not yet in blossom". It has a great quality of light to it too.

Oh I like this very much David.....love the subject and your application of paint too. May I ask, did you put in the sky and background in before or after the trees?

Such a complicated subject superbly rendered. Like Tony, it's reminiscent of van Gogh, love it!

Fiona, thankyou for your lovely comments.I started this picture on a very overcast morning it rained on and off palette was wet and both my artist friend and I got soaked after 4 hours we called it a day.I did take some photo's and finished off in the studio. On the day I blocked in the sky, background trees and the orchard trees .Working from photos I then started to refine things .it was a case of adding again to the sky and adding more foliage as I went along I've used yellow ochre, raw sienna, emerald green.cobalt blue, burnt sienna and viridian. .Regarding the sky I kept adjusting trying to get a contrast and painting in between branches the sky consists of violet, cobalt blue and yellow ochre .I enjoy painting outdoors but its also very maddening trying to achieve something!! isn't it x

thankyou Thalia for your lovely comments x

Thank you for that David. I would never have seen emerald in this, what other colour did you calm it down with?! Lol I’ve been caught in the rain and wind....isn’t funny is it. I remember painting near the sea from the high tide mark with a friend and this gust of wind came up and blew her canvas into the water! After wading in to retrieve it, we went home!

And it reminded me of an early Mondrian when he began to refine and simplify his trees. The patterns and angles are lovely to look at David.

thankyou Marjorie very kind x

How did I miss this one David. Beautiful harmony of colour and technique. Great to see you back in the gallery again. Half closing my eyes and I see he tones are excellent.
