CC1 - The Turf Burner trials
Set in 1957 at Inchicore railway works outside Dublin. Oliver Bulleid, one of the last of the great British railway engineers of the steam era spent his last few working years as chief mechanical engineer of CIE, the Irish state transport company. Amongst other things he built this strange machine to utilise a fuel of which Ireland had a plentiful supply! He is depicted here in red bow tie explaining his invention to the top brass of the company as the locomotive passes on a test run to Cork.
