It is a jolly good painting of this unusual bus.

This is a semi decker on a Leyland PS 2/10 chassis fleet number B 8940 of the NIRTB, built at the Dunmurry workshops in 1948 and depicted nearby rounding Market Square Lisburn when on road test for senior managements appraisal, ( seated in lower saloon ). The unusual wheel arrangement utilising a second steering axle with smaller wheels was simply to get arround the 27' 6" length restrictions on two axled vehicles in force at the time, this vehicle being 30' long. This and a similar vehicle built by the UTA were the only two of their type to be used here. The large boot was intended to accommodate heavy parcels traffic on the Omagh and Enniskillen routes, but ultimately they did useful service on airport work. The vehicle depicted here didn't last long and was rebodied as a conventional rear entrance double decker which survives in preservation.
