A good portrait!!

Good one David

There is a lovely softness you seem to achieve in your paintings and you have managed it within your portraiture. Your colours here are very natural and although I can’t comment on likeness, this is a very skilfully painted portrait. Did you use water mixable oils here? I have used them for other genres and found them to be very forgiving. I might have a go at using them on portraits.

Thank you all for your kind comments. My wife tells me that it is a good likeness. In answer to Carole's question it is done in water mixable oils and you are right Carole, they are forgiving. I am finding that they work best for me if I do the first layers thinning the paint with W & N thinners and/or water. Later layers I either just use paint on its own or add a little linseed to it. For Still Life I use more linseed as that is good for glazes. Have a go Carole.

Super portrait David!

Thanks for the info David I will have a go.
