Of all the people to try to copy, you've chosen one of the most difficult - not only because he was a great master but because he worked in a very different discipline from that to which western painters are used. AND you've used oil, which so far as I know Hiroshige certainly wouldn't have done. Just as well you've made such a fantastic job of it, then! It would have been SO easy for this to have been heavy-handed and clumsy by comparison with the delicacy of traditional Japanese painting, but your painting has avoided all the obvious pitfalls and is admirably understated - excessive detail is death to this sort of thing.

Thanks Robert. I'm fascinated by Hiroshige. I still have trouble comprehending how he and others produced such wonderful works with a few colors in wood blocks. But I was actually inspired to copy one of his works when I saw Van Gogh's "Bridge in the Rain" which was based on Hiroshige's "Sudden Evening Shower At Atake Over Shin Ohashi Great Bridge." Since I'm learning oils I thought I'd give it a try.
