Bucklers Hard, Hampshire

This was a location for Landscape Artist of the Year, 2023 I think. I certainly like your version more than any of the the artists' on LAOTY, it's superb Michael.

A lovely summery image that is so inviting. Very well painted Michael.

That is very good, Michael. I have visited the site in the past so perhaps should also have a go at painting this location.

Glorious!

Been down that way Michael, super painting.

I agree with Hilary! At least you were able to choose your own view and you’ve captured the feel of a lovely sunny day.

I agree with Hilary, this is very good indeed

T'is said that my grandfather's family came from Bucklers Hard - I'm not so sure they did (my grandfather also thought he might be related to Robert the Bruce, which I find an unlikely connection) but whether they did or didn't, it's a lovely spot, surrounded by many others. And this is a lovely painting, which I would have assumed, had you not told told us otherwise, was an oil: it's amazing what acrylic can do when you know what you're doing with it.

Thank you all for your encouraging comments. I actually went to the recording of LAOTY when it was at Bucklers Hard (sneaking around as one of the spectators). Their finished semi final paintings are on display at Bucklers Hard now. Interesting story Robert, and if they did come from there I guess they would have been involved in the ship building business.

Bucklers hard was a ship building site near Beaulieu. A real beauty spot if you’re ever down that way. Acrylics.
