Still life by Brett Hill

Interesting composition, it has a kind of loneliness to it. The people are in the same room but separate. I don’t know if that was the intention. It reminds me of Edward Hopper’s work in the same vein.

I agree with Andrew, something thought provoking about this

Yes Andrew, there is that aspect of isolation. Originally there wasn’t the floral wall, just white space. And that frozen in time aspect of Hopper I definitely agree with, though not intentional. But who can be sure of what’s intentional and what’s not.

Thank you, Heather.

Or Hockney’s “Mr and Mrs Clark and Percy” - you just need the cat.

You’re right Marjorie, I did feel that sneaking up on me. Other works of Hockney as well.

Thanks John.

Excellent composition Brett. Love it.

Like this Brett, the colour and composition.

I like this, the composition, colour, and background pattern. As has been said, it has a feeling of loneliness about it.

I like this one Brett, and I like the figures in your landscapes as well, there is definitely a stillness, contemplative quality to them.

Thanks Hilary. The stillness is not something consciously sought, which is interesting.

Watercolour and gouache. Fiddled with it a bit too much because I didn’t plan ahead properly.
