Walking the dogs by Clive Patterson

I am a bit intrigued - The painting doesn't look natural, it does look like you have superimposed the walkers & dogs! It looks a bit 3d and is an interesting picture, but is it a Fake???? ;-)

hi, James - that was a quick response!! Yes the figures are superimposed ontop of the first painting and they are not exactly where they are in this scene - I tried to photo a number of dog walkers in this setting, but I could not position anyone where I wanted to show them. So I found a siutable picture, altered the scale and the clothing and as you say superimposed them on to the original painting whilst trying to alter the lighting to suite. Probably not 100% successfully as you say - it may not look 'natural' , but it is certainly not a fake, I think you will find lots of old masters did just that very thing.

Ok Clive - well it is a fake as it should really be in the other media section? Good Fun anyway, and thanks for your confession ;-)

James - one final comment from me. The figures are painted by me - they may be from another source but I cannot see how you can call the painting a 'fake' as they could have equally been two models I got to stand still in that position so that I could paint them on the spot using the existing canvas with the content lined up to matching the original scene as I recorded it. This was not possible, I have just substituted a still image and painted that obvoiusly, so what's the problem?

No Problem Clive - It's a great Picture but I think it would have been better if you had painted the figures on your artwork instead of using a computer! When I'm doing cartoons I sometimes dont have the skill to do the complete cartoon in one go so i cheat by layering but I am really trying to keep to complete one offs if I can! Not that Private Eye are interested anyway ;-)

Just one more though Clive, perhaps you should have this in the mixed media section? Anyway the 3d effect of the superimposed figures works well! I may still be unclear thinking that you have used the computer to layer the figures on top, so sorry if this is the case. I don't see a problem at all with painting things in afterwards. Love the trees btw.
