Fountains Abbey

I have tried to paint Fountains Abbey on several occasions without much success - you have succeeded brilliantly. A beautiful place and a beautiful painting. Very well done.

This is a lovely painting Chris. I like loose brushwork in the trees. The light of the setting sun is also well captured. By the light and shadows on the grass you can definitely say it is getting towards the evening and it is getting cooler.

I have just had a look through your your gallery, Some great paintings there Chris. Th light on this one is wonderful.

You have a distinctive palette (wonder what it is?) which brings sharpness and contrast to your work. Fountains Abbey is one of my favourite places; walking round it with a visiting party of usually very voluble housing managers some years ago, I was struck by the silence which descended on them, until one said, "well; we couldn't build this now!". It's a highly impressive place, and your painting - of one of the less familiar angles - is an impressive rendition of it.

Gorgeous light and shade in this one Chis, must have taken you ages to do, so much detail in it, great capturing of the Abbey, really impressive particularly for a watercolour as well, lovely depth of colour
