Carol, you are coming on in leaps and bounds with your oils. I can't offer you constructive criticism, I hardly know what I'm doing myself with oils, I just plod on. But I can tell you what I like about it, if that's a help. I like the way you have painted the distant, snow capped mountains and half way down they have gone into shadow, that's very effective. I also like how you have handled the contours of the main mountain. the righthand side in the light and the left in the shade, excellent description. The foreground is also interesting with different shades and marks. The only thing that I'm not sure of is the tree on the left which is a russet colour...could it be bolder or lighter? I don't know Carol. I like the touch of vapour/cloud/smoke. Are you pleased with it? Do you prefer oils to watercolour now you've done a few? Keep going whatever you do, you're getting the hang of it!

Many thanks Fiona for your lengthy and interesting comment. Apart from the foreground, with which I had to take some artistic licence, everything else in the painting is the same as the photo -mountain shadows, the puff of cloud, and the russet coloured tree etc. I'm a bit unsure about that tree myself but it is there -so there it is if you see what I mean. Yes Fiona I am pleased with it -you (and the gallery) are the only people who have seen the finished painting so I await comments from any visitors who may see the original. I certainly find oils much more forgiving in that you can change things -but I would still like to try and produce some good watercolours. I've not decided what the next oil will be but I'm certainly looking forward to doing it. Many thanks again Fiona.

Hi Carol, I'm really glad that you are enjoying oils and when you are pleased with something you produce it gives you the incentive to do more. I'm sure you will have nothing but positive feedback from any visitors that see it.......be proud, you've done a good job, and the next will be even better I'm sure! Thank you very much for the kind comment left on 'just a wee one', I do appreciate you taking the time to look. Now, come on, get your photo's out and choose the next project, don't let the dust settle on your brushes! Lol.

Bless you Fiona for those encouraging words. You certainly know how to enthuse me.

I think we all need a gentle push now and again, I know I do. So what's it going to be?????

I wish I knew!! Busy with office work until Thursday at least, so won't have time to plough through the photos. I'll let you know when I get started on new painting.

Painted with water-based oils. This is from one of my own photos when I was on a trekking holiday in the Annapurna foothills many years ago. This is the biggest oil painting I have tried 14 x 10 inches on canvas board. I would welcome comments and constructive criticism.
