A lovely series categorising childhood in the 50s? This one draws me because my dad was that coal man

Although you paint what today we would call hard times, your paintings do not reflect depression or the grime of life and so on. Unlike lowery who as much as I liked. Found it fine to view one or two of his works. However viewing a whole gallery of his paintings I found it depressing. But your paintings are not like that. One could say that are refreshing the way they have been done.

This is the back which was our playground, in all weathers! We were often cold and our families so poor that they couldn't afford very much coal. So we would chase after the coal wagon and pick up the slack to take home.
