I really like this. Great work on the grasses and lovely form on the cattle.

Gorgeous pastelwork on this entire scene Carlina, great colours

Agreed with Ross, this is very good Pastel work, like it very muchly, the coats are superbly rendered, I wonder , did you use pencils as well as pastel in stick form, I do find the pencils a little scratchy sometimes, maybe its the brand I use !!.

Wonderful picture, Beautiful cattle

Gorgeous. Your pastel work is fabulous.

Wow this is good, beautiful pastel work

Beautiful pastel work

Lovely composition and full of that glow you were after.

Thank you all so much!

To Christopher: mostly I used various brands of pastel in stick form. As usual I blocked in with the harder square pastels first and then moved on to the softer grades of pastel. As the painting is only about 11" x 8" I did use pencils (Carbothello & Derwent) for some of the detail on the faces but, like you, I find them rather scratchy, particularly the Carbothello; they sometimes take off more of the underlying layers than they add to the painting! I do, however, find them useful for blending colours together; for example, I used an orange one to blend the background greens together. Hope this helps!

Fantastic! I love this one.

I saw these lovely Highland cattle one evening when the sun was bright but low and I felt as though I was drowning in golden light; it was a glorious feeling and I have tried to capture a little of that atmosphere here.
