I think the blue tint to your snow works well here Carlina, it was actually quite a good colour perhaps for this particular pastel scene, i like using coloured papers for my pet portraits in pastel, i have to admit i have never tried a sanded surface, the bluey tint contrasts well also with your tree's the one's with the green/yellow colouration in them it throws them forward which is a good effect in this scene, love your light and shade in this pastel as well

Wow Ros - you were certainly quick to comment on this one! No sooner had I posted it than your kind comments appeared in my emails - many thanks. A sandpaper surface is lovely to use if you like layering colour (which I do!) but can prove difficult if you want very fine detail as in your pet portraits until the tooth is well-filled. But beware - sanded surfaces gobble up pastel sticks!

I usually use a sanded surface for pastel work but thought I would try a sheet of denim blue Two Rivers watercolour paper which had been languishing under the bed for some time, as it provided a suitable background colour for the subject. It certainly was a very different experience, being a much softer surface and I found it difficult to fill in the grain of the rough support in places where I did not want the blue to show through. Interesting, but I won't be using it for pastel again!
