I really like the way you've portrayed the dappled sunlight and shade on the sheep made even more pronounced by that nearest sheep being in the full sun.

Nice one, difficult subject, love the outcome.

I agree not an easy task (for me anyway!) All with individual expressions and positions. I love the sunny background too, great painting.

A lovely scene, full of warmth and beautifully painted Carlina.

A super scene. Love the rich, complex colors on the sheep that really bring out the light and shadows.

Thank you all for your kind comments. I really enjoyed painting this one although at first a little overwhelmed by the number of sheep I had chosen to portray - but it worked out ok in the end.

Nice to see you are posting again Carlina, I love this one.

lovely, the horizontal bands of grass, sheep, foliage and the strong vertical lines of trunks, composition works well and you've captured the sunny day, and the sheep, perfectly

The light and shade are excellent in this painting so good on the sheep, like how you have painted the bottom of the fir trees and the layer effect created by just showing that with the hedge in view under the trees then the layer of sheep

I love Ashdown Forest (Sussex), especially when the sun is shining. There is an area of the Forest where sheep roam freely and, on sunny days, the distinctive clumps of pine trees provide ideal shade for the sheep. As with many paintings I do, I started this with an underpainting sloshed on in acrylic and then worked it up in oils.
