I think this is wonderful. it's not too detailed at all just superbly done.

Well I love the detail - don't think it's to do with using photos - I use them but only as a means of getting shapes and composition - I then try to put them aside and work from my own imagination. I think it's more to do with our own individual style and you've perfected yours in this great painting.

Although there is quite a lot of detail in this work, it reads well and is not 'fussy', which is a testament to your skill Brian, a lovely painting.

A fantastic control of watercolour giving a lovely result. I thing you have it pretty much bang on and then some more. There is just so much incidental detail for the eye to keep discovering - lovely.

What a lovely picture. I was thinking of going up to Staithes next year for a weekend at the Staithes Art School. Is this what you did, or were you on your own? It is such a lovely place.

When watercolour is this good. It is impossible to get to much detail into it Brian, excellent boats, translucent water, love the title as well!

Super - the lone boatsman makes it for me!

Love the painting. Love the detail. Something different to notice each time you look at it.

The quality shines out. Superb! Went to Marine Artists Exhibition at the Mall Galleries yesterday & saw a couple of your paintings there. Also excellent.

If you are going to do a detailed painting in watercolour then this is definitely the way to do it! Wonderful work and I agree with Kim that the boatman makes the scene come alive. It is funny how a landscape or scene like this is a bit numb without the addition of even a distant person. I have only just realised this and what a difference to a painting it makes.

Everybody has said it already, fantastic work.

Fantastic watercolour. Brilliant reflections. Love it!

Wonderful watercolour Brian, full of skill.

A super piece, and not with too much detail. You've captured the relevant detail where the boats are, but have beautifully recessed the background detail, creating the requisite depth and tension in the painting.

Ha. I thought your work generally was that of excellence. I am hoping to get to the exhibition in London. Gorgeous depth of colour and lovely scene.

Another water colour from my painting trip to North Yorkshire in July. I have used sketches and photographs done at the time to create this picture at home in my studio. As always I have probably got too much detail in it ... a result of using photographs for reference I fear.
