This is very atmospheric, Brian. I've just painted something a bit similar and the perspective and boat details were both so difficult. The shadows across the path and grass are great and the touch of smoke is perfect.

Beautiful watercolour painting Brian. You have a very nice gallery as well! I seem to remember seeing your lovely painting 'River in midsummer' before. Did you win a prize with that one or did it feature in a magazine? Either way, it's a super painting and as such is unforgettable! Perhaps I just remember seeing it on this site :)

it does look a frosty morning here, not surprised it was too cold to paint on the spot. Another excellently captured scene :-)

It's not as blue as it appears on my computer screen! It was too cold to paint this on the spot - the canal was actually covered in ice. I did a quick sketch and took some reference photos. This was then painted in the warm at home. The ice on the canal seemed a bit uninteresting so I changed it back to water.
