Venetian Detail II

Venetian Detail II

I think the black knickers picks up the dark in the windows and under the arch, great painting.

I liked this instantly. Rather than the often bland scenes of Venice, this is a glimpse of real life(complete with black knickers LOL). Wonderful reflections.

Smashing watercolour. Wonderful colours. Love the reflections and everything about it.

If you had changed the colour of the black knicker on the left, the white door frame would have been slightly out of context. I love this watercolour but..... I love all of them.

I agree with Beatrice, wonderful painting, knickers in black and all.

Personally I'm all for black knickers, and yours are a particularly pious Venetian pair. It's all caught deliciously, not least the uniquely patrician decay of the place. Wonderful.

In the light of your kind comments I don't know why I was getting my knickers in a twist - b;lack or otherwise!

Wow, so exciting, your pantings have that magic immediacy, something always in the forefront of my mind as I paint, and struggle getting it. I have alway assumed watercolours to be limited but I can see here I really should have a go.

Thank you for your comments Andrew it's always very encouraging to receive appreciative comments. Especially so because my watercolour style is much tighter than most and it can be difficult to strike a balance between putting in detail to acheive the picture I want and over working the painting which results in tired mud!

I love your paintings and this is one of my favourites, perhaps because I went to Venice a few weeks ago and was so inspired by the place. I think the black knickers give it a lovely touch of reality...I immediately imagined the person who had worn and washed them! I agree with other comm ents that this kind of detail gives a picture life.

Mmm. I think they're fine as they are. Lovely washes here, particularly into the alley and around the steps. Venice is a watercolour, isn't it?

Another lovely image - your handling of watercolour is superb Brian.

As soon as I had finished this painting I realised that I should have changed the colour of the black knickers to something a bit brighter. What do you think? As always the photgraph isn't good and has made the picture appear lighter than it should be.
