Ventnor Sunset II

Super painting Brendan & I love your gallery too.

Beautifully luminous.

Brilliant painting Brendan

Lovely light and warmth here Brendan, well done!..

Incredibly calm; masterful use of watercolour.

Great palette Brendan. Love the light shining on the water.

That's excellent. I wish you'd do a blog and explain how you achieve that because I for one would like to know. David

Thanks for the nice comments. A blog is a thought, David. In brief the major part of the picture is a traditional wet in wet method but with careful thought to some hard edges which provide the necessary balance, especially in the dark foreground. The other important factor is the choice of colours (very few). Here I used raw sienna, transparent yellow, burnt sienna, Winsor blue, magenta and a little cadmium orange (so no heavy, opaque colours). Finally, I find that the best paper for this type of subject is Waterford Not, either 140lb or 200lb. Hope this helps.

What a stunning atmosphere Brendan
