You're a brave man to attempt that. What was remarkable about the Dutch masters - Vermeer, de Hooch particularly, was their mastery of light. It would have been completely unreasonable to expect you to have caught that in the same way, and indeed - I'm sure you know that you haven't. But you HAVE got the sense of spaciousness; you've done a fine job on the tablecloth and the deep ultramarine of the woman's dress, and the elements of the painting generally work well together. My favourite paintings of yours are those in which you're not making versions of others' work - but that IS an excellent way to learn, if you've got the courage to try it; art students back in the day used to do this: I wonder if they still do?

That has worked very well. Bryan!!

A very challenging painting but you should be proud of what you have achieved.

You have done an excellent painting Bryan. 👌

Robert has said it all - well done Bryan

You were very brave to have a go at doing your own version of a Vermeer painting. There are many very good elements to your painting. I like the window, tablecloth and the woman is also nicely painted. Copying grand masters is what aspiring artists used to do to improve their techniques as Robert says and I am sure that you would have learnt a lot of positives from doing it.

Thanks to all for your Honest Comments & support, very much appreciated, Happy Painting to All !

You have worked so hard on this Bryan. Although it will have been tough going at times, I’ll bet you enjoyed doing it and learned a lot. Love the tablecloth and the window in particular.

Over the years I have dabbled in watercolor. Then one night after the clocks altered, I decided that I was not going to waste the dark evenings by eating & nodding off in front of the TV. I purchased a cheap box set of art essentials & had a go. The internet is a great source for learning & I love…
