Beach near Arisaig
A trip to Scotland in September began with a painting holiday on Skye. This scene along the old coast road between Arisaig and Mallaig just had to be painted. To my mind, the beaches of western Scotland are amongst the most scenic anywhere in the world. For the artist, there is the enticing and exciting combination of a mountainous backdrop, the often vivid blues and greens of the sea, harmonious colours of the surrounding shore vegetation and, of course, the often dazzling whites, creams and sometimes pinks of the sands. I chose acrylics because I enjoy the quickness with which I can build texture due to the fast drying, though I've begun another Scottish beach in oils. On MDF board, 16"x20".
