Nothing wrong with the tree Barry except, in my opinion of course, being in th foreground it needs to be more pronounced, or, considering the time of year, at least the branches do. Your middle distance is more evident than the foreground. Just my view, and you can very easily correct that to make a fine painting.... Jim.

Thanks Jim, you make some good points and suggestions. I will probably have another go and your comments will be helpful.

I think this works very well Barry, the perspective of the bridge is good and leads nicely through the painting. There are some very nice touches in the distant village and trees. I seem to remember being told not to add features at the edges of a painting, perhaps that is why you are not happy with the tree? It's top also coincides with the line of the distant hill. If I cover up the tree, the painting looks better ( well, to my eye that is! )

Hi Barry, I am not sure about this one. To me there seems to be a mixture of seasons. The lovely bridge looks frosty or slightly snowy, the tree in the foreground autumnal but the mid distance trees and river bank are very are all very green. Lovely scene though.

Thank you Stephen and Cherry, I think the lesson is not to put things in as an afterthought. The tree does look autumnal and this possibly gives a feeling of frost. I think I need to raise the tree above the background hillside give it summer foliage and create a shadow on the bridge.

That sounds a good idea Barry, please post it if you do. I think we can all gain by these discussions.

On a day when I have to stay home awaiting another Amazon delivery I have repainted a scene that I did in the summer with a view to making some improvements. A partial success me thinks, generally ok but I have overworked it and due to making the two peaks compete with each other ended up putting in the tree on the left which I don't think works very well.
